A key benefit of membership in the Platte County EDC is the opportunity to actively engage with the organization and other members through committees, luncheons, and other events.

Committees and Taskforces
The following are short descriptions of the various opportunities for involvement.
Inclement Weather Policy:
In the event of inclement weather, Platte County EDC meetings will be canceled if the Park Hill School District closes.
Quarterly Luncheons
Each year, Platte County EDC hosts three quarterly luncheons to deliver relevant and timely information to our members and other attendees. In 2024, our luncheon topics included:
Q1 - Women in Leadership
This event highlighted three influential female leaders in the Kansas City region. Our panelists included:
- Melissa Cooper, Aviation Director - Kansas City Aviation Department
- Michelle Hataway, Director - Missouri Department of Economic Development
- Kathy Rose, Mayor - City of Riverside
Q2 - Speaker Series
This luncheon featured keynote speaker Dr. Leigh Anne Taylor Knight, Executive Director and COO of The DeBruce Foundation, who highlighted the work of the Foundation and its current workforce initiatives.
Q3 - State of the Economy
This luncheon featured local Economist Dr. Chris Kuehl to give an update on the state of our economy, especially with the approaching election.
Business Excellence Awards
For over 30 years, Platte County EDC has proudly recognized hundreds of businesses at our end-of-year Business Excellence Awards luncheon. This signature event celebrates the outstanding accomplishments of our local businesses, honoring their contributions to job creation, major expansions, capital investment projects, and other significant achievements that strengthen Platte County's economy and community.
In 2024, 13 businesses and individuals were recognized for their achievements, including:

Thirsty Thursdays
Platte County EDC hosts monthly Thirsty Thursday networking events. These free, unscripted two-hour gatherings, hosted by sponsors at various locations, connect members, partners, elected officials, and prospective members.
In 2024, some of our networking events included:
- Taco Truck at Platte County EDC's office
- Gathering at Riverside Mayor Rose's house
- 50th Anniversary celebration with Seal-O-Matic Paving Company

The Platte County Workforce Alliance (WFA) unites influential leaders from Platte County’s business sector and educational institutions. Collaboratively, they commission labor studies, facilitate career exploration opportunities for students, foster relationships to elevate employer training, and promote the region as an ideal business destination. Beginning in 2023, the alliance convened multiple times throughout the year to formulate a strategic approach dedicated to maximizing community benefits in workforce development. This culminated in the formation of three specialized subcommittees, each dedicated to refining the alliance’s focus. These subcommittees include:
The Northland Transportation Committee (NTC) brings together civic, business, and community leaders from Platte, Clay, and Ray counties, united by a shared vision. This vision is centered around cultivating a safe, robust, and efficient transportation network that elevates the quality of life for Northland residents and fuels economic development in the region. Through strategic advocacy, legislative engagement, and meticulous site readiness vetting, the committee works to drive impactful transportation projects that contribute to the sustained growth and prosperity of the Northland.
