The Platte County Economic Development Council (PCEDC) hosted its third Quarterly Member Luncheon on Friday, September 29, 2023, at The Marriott KCI. This event featured Jon Stephens, President & CEO of Port KC, who discussed how Port KC grows the Kansas City economy through job attraction.
PCEDC Past-Chairman Scott Zigler of Zona Rosa kicked off the luncheon by recognizing many of the elected officials, high-level PCEDC investors, board members, and special guests in attendance. Recognition was also given to five new PCEDC investors, including Alpha-Omega Geotech, Burns & McDonnell, Heartland Business Capital, Northland Health Care Access, and Slaggie Architects.

Stephens was then welcomed to the stage by Tina Chace, PCEDC Executive Director. He began his presentation by giving an overview of Port KC and its mission to grow the economy in Kansas City responsibly and thoughtfully with a focus on long-term stability. He then went on to briefly discuss a few of their current projects including logistics facilities and Berkley Riverfront.
The term “partnerships” was a key theme throughout the presentation, as Stephens emphasized how PCEDC, Port KC, Kansas City Area Development Council, Missouri Partnership, and Evergy all work together to attract new business to Platte County. Some of these collaborations include promoting KC to site selectors and companies, working with developers to ready their sites, helping to craft competitive deal structures to win projects, and reinvesting in workforce development and logistics infrastructure.
Thank you, Jon, for taking time out of your busy schedule to give us a bit more insight into Port KC’s mission and vision! We sincerely appreciate your partnership!
