PCEDC’s Quarterly Luncheon: How Do We Make Missouri The Best?

The Platte County Economic Development Council held its first Quarterly Member Luncheon on Friday, March 1, 2019 at the Argosy Casino Hotel & Spa. Sponsored by Citizens Savings & Loan, the luncheon featured a panel from the Missouri Department of Economic Development (DED) who provided insight on how they plan to make Missouri the Best in Midwest.

PCEDC Chairman, Dale Brouk of FiveStar Lifestyles emceed the event and kicked off the luncheon by celebrating the city council’s vote to approve agreements for the new KCI single terminal project. Recognition was given to the many elected officials, high-level PCEDC investors, board members, and partners in attendance. New investors were recognized, including Polsinelli, Four Points by Sheraton Kansas City Airport, and Tim Daily.

The panel featured: Rob Dixon, Director, Department of Economic Development; Mark Stombaugh, Director, Regional Engagement; Amy Sublett, Director, Missouri OneStart; Michael Lanahan, Director, Business and Community Solutions; and Maggie Kost, Director, Strategy and Performance.  Each Director spoke about their role and how the strategic changes taking place are expected to benefit our communities and businesses.

Director Rob Dixon began by saying, “It’s an exciting time to be a part of economic development in Missouri,” which was echoed by each panelist. The prefix of the day was “re-” with words like refocus, reinvent, and repurpose helping to build the excitement. Workforce development was a recurring topic that included solutions for streamlining state and local services to help strengthen the workforce pipeline.
