On Friday, June 3rd the Platte County EDC and the Leavenworth County Development Corp hosted a joint luncheon at the KCI Expo. This is the first time the two organizations combined efforts to present the impact and future of Fort Leavenworth. Close to 150 people attended the event which was sponsored by Embassy Suites KC, Marriott, Hilton, Holiday Inn, and Four Points by Sheraton. Mr. Kirby Brown, Deputy to the Commanding General U.S. Army, Combined Arms Center Fort Leavenworth, Kansas, was the guest speaker. Brown provided an overview of the armed services education occurring at Fort Leavenworth, leadership changes, and future growth opportunities.
Attendees also heard an update about the Route 92 Centennial Bridge Study by Mark Kenneally with TranSystems. Kenneally provided an overview of the purpose of the study, to identify a replacement bridge for Route 92 Missouri river crossing, funding mechanisms, and next steps.
Alicia Stephens, Executive Director of the Platte County EDC, and Steve Jack, Executive Director of the Leavenworth County Development Corp both recognized that Fort Leavenworth is an economic development driver for both counties and the luncheon was a great opportunity to bring communities together.
