The Platte County Economic Development Council team assisted at the Annual Joint Luncheon on September 9th at the KCI Hilton.

Coordinated by the Northland Regional Chamber in partnership with Platte County Economic Development Council and Clay County Economic Development Council , the annual event was attended by 450 local businesspeople, elected officials and major PCEDC partners.

Kansas City Mayor Sly James was the keynote speaker, and his demeanor was solemn due to a tragic shooting the previous night. In his speech, Mayor James addressed the Twin Creeks development and plans for Kansas City International Airport. In regard to KCI Airport, Mayor James said “We need to do what is in the best interest of the city, not today, but for the next 40 years. We need to continue to do all those things that promote job growth, business development, and sustainability.”

The mayor also noted that Kansas City has plenty of space for new development, referencing “$43 million investment in sewers and infrastructure that has opened up more than 20 square miles of development.”

Platte County Economic Development Council will host the next quarterly luncheon in the form of its annual Business Excellence Luncheon on December 11 at Embassy Suites Kansas City.
