A recent Labor Study of the Kansas City North Suburbs showed that
the labor basin encompasses seven counties in Northwest Missouri
and Northeast Kansas. The Docking Institute of Public Affairs
independent analysis of this labor basin shows that:
- The available labor pool in the Kansas City, North
Suburbs labor basin is 146,670
- Over 31,455 workers (10%) are actively seeking new
employment opportunities
- 115,215 (36%) would consider new employment
for the right opportunity
- 69% of the available labor pool have at least some
college education
- 95% have at least a high school diploma
- 35%, an estimated 52,040 workers are underemployed
- wages at which available workers would be interested in an
employment opportunity
- 24% (35,640) at $10.00 an hour
- 31% (46,190 ) at $12.00 an hour
- 9% (12,990) at $8.00 an hour

Plentiful
Platte County has the 2nd fastest growth rate in the state &
ranks in the top 250 in the U.S.

Educated
Secondary and post-secondary completion ranks higher in Platte
County and the KC metro area than the national average.

Workforce Quantity/Quality

Accessibility to transportation, a reliable and productive work
force and central location combine to make Platte County the place

From 2003 to 2006 over 210 businesses were visited by Platte County
EDC using a business outreach survey. In 2006, the 71 businesses
were visited representing over 17,000 employees. When ranking the
workforce characteristics of Platte County businesses, all categories
ranked above average (1-low, 7-high).

they will hold steady
