Platte County EDC Roundtable; A Great Informational Meeting

The roundtable meeting featured guest speakers from the Kansas City Planning and Zoning Office, Jake Liske and Patty Noll. Jade gave a presentation on the KCI Area Plan which focused on the processes and steps the city planning and zoning department had to go through in order to complete the plan. Following Jade, Patty explained the development code for zoning ordinances and subdivision regulations, which include: legal framework, general rules of language and interpretation, zoning map, and transitional provisions. To view Patty's presentation, please click here.

Social Media Seminar: Do You Tweet? Are you Linked?

Over 70 attendees learned about social media at the business outreach seminar hosted by the Platte County EDC.  Josh Halperin with Heartland Business Capital gave an overview of what is social media, Jennifer Burke with KC Sourcelink, Joe Grigsby and Jennifer Genter with VML presented on how social media is used, why and the do's and do not's of using programs such as Facebook and Twitter.  Meredith Hauck with the City of Riverside showed how she uses social media in her work everyday.

The response to the seminar was so overwhelming a follow-up on "How-To Use Social Media" is being set.  Stay tuned to find that date and time!

HB 191 is Passed

What was termed as "The Economic Development Bill" was passed through the Missouri House of Representatives on Friday, May 15, 2009-the last day of the session.  Governor Jay Nixon had been pushing for the bill to be passed before the legislators convened for summer. 

This bill expands one of Missouri's most useful economic tools, Quality Jobs, as well as the BUILD program. You can find a summary of the bill here.

Platte County Retail Tour Fills the Bus

Wednesday, May 6th retail brokers from all over the metro area came to tour Platte County's retail opportunities, enjoy lunch and golf! Over 20 brokers hopped on the bus at The National II to check out Tuileries Plaza, Zona Rosa, Tiffany Springs MarketCenter and Parkville Commons as well as other development along the way.  We want to thank those sponsors and The Aviation Department for their support!  After the tour our attendees were treated to lunch at The National II and a round of golf.

Pure Fishing Business Tour Catches a Crowd!

Wednesday, April 22nd caught our largest crowd ever at a business tour.  Over 40 PCEDC investors came to tour the 400,000 SF distribution center.  You can see more of the tour here!
