The
Kansas City metropolitan area is a major national center for rail
and barge transportation.
Kansas City is the second largest rail center in the U.S. Freight
delivery, within one to four days to most major cities in the nation,
is provided by eleven railroads. The railroads maintain modern inter-modal
facilities conveniently located just south of Platte County in North
Kansas City, Kansas City, MO & KS. Platte County is served by
Burlington Northern/ Santa Fe with a major line paralleling the
Missouri River through the county.
Barge service opens access to the north, south and east. The port
of Kansas City is a major center of waterborne freight on the Missouri
River system, which is part of the Inland Waterways System and provides
access to ports on the Gulf of Mexico, the Great Lakes, and the
Atlantic Seaboard.
